Small Business Owners Will Benefit from These Business Workspace Tips
If you run a small business, you might be great at what you do but know know next-to-nothing about setting up the right office space for your needs. Whether you are going to be working from home or looking for a shared office space or other type of community office spaces, you are going to want to be sure that your space is set up for success. Here are some ways to ensure that and some benefits of different office space situations.
Creating The Perfect Home Office
Many people dream of working from home, and if you have a space you can set aside as an office, then you are already ahead of the curve. If not, you can make any corner of your home or apartment work for you, but you will want to follow some basic rules.
First off, you will want to be absolutely certain that the chair you are going to be sitting in is comfortable. Too many small business owners go cheap on their chairs to meet their budget goals, but this is the last area you want to do this with. You should love your chair, or you won’t want to be sitting at your desk.
Next you will want to make sure that your computer screen is positioned so it is at eye level or just a bit below, and also place your keyboard in such a way that your forearms will be parallel to the floor when working. This has been shown to reduce fatigue.
Third, you will want to make sure that you have some natural light hitting your home work-space, if possible. Don’t place your desk right against the darkest corner of the room. This creates a boring, drab, cubicle like feel and can have you itching to get up all of the time. To help, you can move your desk closer to a window and place it parallel to the panes. This will give you some natural light and also a way to take a break every now and then by taking in the outdoor scenery. An electric fireplace with a tv stand is a great add-on, providing you with the feel of real heat without the mess.
Last, but not least, don’t forget to add a lamp to your desk, a plant or two, some nice photos you want to look at from time to time, and maybe a candle or oil burner to add some nice scents to your area.
Shared Office and Community Spaces
Renting offices by the day, week, or month can save money, and so can renting a shared office space. Some companies rent out some of their extra space to help cover overhead costs, etc.
Community office spaces offer opportunities to collaborate with other workers and business and sometimes lead to amazing growth opportunities. Another benefit is that you might be able to have your office spaces in a nicer part of town, because you can afford them. One of the greatest benefits to small business owners, especially those who are just getting started, is that the setup can be extremely quick. Many community office spaces are already set up with internet, electricity, and desks so that all you have to do is pay the bill and you are ready to go!
